Discover the joy of creating your own hand-built ceramic mini figurines in this engaging pottery course in Portland! In this two week course, you will learn the basics of hand-built ceramics, a pottery technique that does not require a wheel, just your two hands.

Week one: The workshop will begin with a hand-building demo, including recommended tools, and how to attach two pieces of clay. Clay will be provided to each student, as well as all necessary tools. After the demo, we will take some time to sketch out ideas and turn those sketches into tiny sculptures. The rest of the class time will be spent making as many mini figurines as your heart desires!

Week two: Now that we have our mini sculptures built, it's time to think about painting! This workshop will begin with a discussion on ceramic underglazes, how they behave and what to expect. You will also have the option of adding clear glaze to your piece.

All pieces will be fired by the instructor outside of workshop hours; you will be notified when your items are ready for pickup.

At the end of this course, you will walk away with an understanding of hand-building, sculpting small, painting on clay, and multiple miniatures to decorate your home! This ceramics course is a great way to get your foot in the door with a new hobby.

Learn the basics and leave with a beautiful handmade item and the inspiration and motivation to pursue more! Whether you're looking for ceramics classes in Portland or you want to spend a couple of days challenging yourself to try something new, this is an opportunity to create something from start to finish, meet new people, and indulge your creative spirit!
