Learn stamp-carving as a unique way to decorate pottery

Personalize a ceramic vase with handmade stamps in this fun block-printing class in Portland! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn the basics of stamp carving and print your own stamp on a pre-made vase using ceramic underglazes. Simply come ready to learn and create, and you'll leave with a beautiful handmade item.

Your workshop begins with inspiration as your instructor showcases examples of carved stamps and how they look when printed on pottery. You’ll learn how to use linocut tools, practice carving, and experiment with test prints to ensure your design is just right. Once you’re comfortable, it’s time to sketch and brainstorm ideas for your stamp. Your instructor will provide tips on crafting a design that translates beautifully onto clay, then guide you as you carve your custom stamp. After a few practice prints, you’ll use your stamp to decorate your vase with ceramic underglaze, creating a functional piece of art that’s uniquely yours. Paper will also be provided if you would like to create some additional prints of your stamp.

This class is the perfect way to explore a new craft, challenge your creativity, and enjoy a relaxing, rewarding experience. After the workshop, your instructor will glaze and fire your mug, which will be ready for pickup at a later date.

What to bring: We provide everything you need, just come with some comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

What you’ll get: You will receive beginner instruction on stamp carving. You will leave with at least one stamp of your own design, paper prints of your stamp(s), as well as a fully functional vase decorated with your stamp(s).
